Live Rock
Living Rocks for Marine Aquarium
Living rocks are at the heart of the Berlin method developed in the 1980s, which revolutionized reef aquaristics. Originally collected from natural reef areas, they allowed for the introduction of complete biological filtration directly into the aquarium.
Comprising porous limestone structures colonized by bacteria, microfauna, and marine organisms, living rocks provide a large surface area for natural filtration. They actively participate in the nitrogen cycle, promote biological stability, and contribute to the diversity of the reef micro-ecosystem.
Beyond their biological role, they form the base of the decor and offer ideal supports for coral implantation. Carefully selected for their porosity and biological richness, living rocks allow for the creation of a stable, living marine aquarium that closely resembles natural reefs.
