Balling
Balling
The Balling system is a flexible and precise supplementation method that allows for the separate addition of the three basic solutions (calcium, carbonate, and trace elements) tailored to the needs of each reef tank. Designed to continuously compensate for coral consumption, it ensures stability of essential parameters and minimizes sudden fluctuations.
Operating Principles
- Three separate bottles: Solution A (calcium), Solution B (carbonate), Solution C (trace elements and halogens).
- Controlled dosing by peristaltic pump or programmable automatic controller.
- Continuous addition throughout the day to match the actual consumption of corals.
Advantages
- Optimal maintenance of calcium (420–440 mg/L) and carbonate hardness (6.5–8.5 °dKH).
- Stability of pH and reduction of consumption peaks.
- Adjustable supply of all essential trace elements (Sr, B, I, Mo, V, etc.).
- Simplification of daily management and increased system autonomy.
Installation Recommendations
- Controller programming: distribute doses over 6–8 hours per day.
- Use of chemical-resistant tubing and weekly flow rate checks.
- Regular monitoring of parameters via ICP tests or digital checkers.
