Nassarius dorsatus – Detritivore Snail for Reef Aquarium
Nassarius dorsatus is a reef snail native to the Indo-Pacific region, renowned for its ability to break down organic matter buried in the sand. Its slightly oval, conical shell allows it to move easily under the substrate, discreetly.
An Efficient Substrate Cleaner
This gastropod spends most of its time buried in the sand, on the lookout for uneaten food leftovers by fish. It actively contributes to the natural maintenance of the aquarium by reducing organic waste. It is an ideal detritivore snail for all types of marine tanks, from reef to fish only.
Maintenance Conditions
- Minimum Recommended Volume: 50 liters
- Temperature: 23°C to 27°C
- pH: 8.0 to 8.4
- Substrate: fine or mixed sand (at least 2-3 cm thick)
- Compatibility: excellent with fish, invertebrates, and corals
Behavior and Particularities
Nassarius dorsatus is a peaceful and discreet snail. It is recommended to introduce several individuals to enhance cleaning efficiency, at a rate of 3 to 5 per 100 liters. Nocturnal, it becomes very active as soon as it detects suspended food.
In case of transport or stress, this mollusk can simulate inactivity or adopt a defensive posture. This is temporary and harmless. It is advised to wait 24 to 48 hours after acclimation to observe its natural movements.
