Turbo setosus – Rough Turban Snail
The Turbo setosus, also known as the rough turban snail, is a particularly effective nocturnal algae-eating snail in the fight against unwanted algae. It is perfect for any reef aquarium that desires natural maintenance of the decor and glass.
A discreet but formidable grazer
With its robust, textured shell shaped like a turban, the Turbo setosus grazes algae on live rocks, substrate, and glass without disturbing corals or other invertebrates. Primarily active at night, it works while the rest of the tank rests.
It is not uncommon to observe its reproduction directly in the aquarium, proof of its excellent adaptation to reef environments. Its presence effectively helps maintain the natural balance of the tank while remaining very discreet in its movements.
An integrated natural protection
The Turbo setosus has a solid operculum, which it uses as a trapdoor to protect itself in case of threat. This makes it less vulnerable to curious or slightly aggressive fish.
