Astrea Snail – Starred Algae-Eater for Reef Aquariums
The Astrea snail, also known as the Starred Astrea, is a marine mollusk native to the tropical waters of the Caribbean. Its spiraled conical shell gives it a distinctive appearance, ideal for camouflaging among the live rocks in your aquarium. It is renowned for its ability to consume large quantities of algae, making it an indispensable ally in the fight against unwanted algae.
A Natural Cleaner for a Healthy Aquarium
The Astrea is an efficient algae-eater, feeding on brown, green algae, and biofilms found on the glass, live rocks, and decor of the aquarium. Through its grazing activity, it promotes the development of coralline algae and helps maintain the biological balance of the reef tank.
Behavior and Compatibility
This small snail spends most of its time on hard surfaces, avoiding sandy substrates. It is harmless to corals and invertebrates, and can coexist with most reef fish. Thanks to its small size, it easily reaches the narrowest corners of the aquarium.
