Copper
Copper (Cu)
What to do when the level is too high?
Risks: gradual death of corals and mollusks (clams, snails, shrimps), significant coral bleaching (Acropora, Seriatopora, Pocillopora), rapid failure of invertebrates.
Measures: perform frequent partial water changes to dilute the copper, use iron or aluminum-based filtering media (Ultra Phos, PowerPhos), check and eliminate the source of copper (optimal value: < 4 µg/L, avoid > 10 µg/L).
What to do when the level is too low?
Risks: slowed coral growth, increased sensitivity to environmental stress and pathogens.
Measures: gradually add via Elementals Trace Cu (e.g., 97 mL spread over 2 days with Balling Light), monitor regularly until reaching about 4 µg/L Cu, adjust the dosage if necessary.
