Premnas biaculeatus, often called the tomato clownfish, is the largest representative of clownfish. Its round, stocky, and robust body, with shades ranging from red to dark brown depending on the individual, makes it an impressive and charismatic fish in a reef aquarium.
Measuring up to 14 cm when fully grown, this fish is particularly appreciated for its vitality, longevity, and its symbiotic relationship with the anemone Entacmaea quadricolor, in which it finds refuge. Its lively and territorial behavior requires careful consideration of the tank composition, especially if you wish to introduce other clownfish.
Behavior and Compatibility
Premnas biaculeatus can be kept alone, in pairs, or in a group formed from the start. Being territorial, it can be aggressive towards other species or clownfish introduced after it. It strongly bonds with its host anemone and may vigorously defend its territory around it.
