Halymenia durvillei – Ornamental Red Algae for Reef Aquariums
Halymenia durvillei is an elegant and flexible red algae, often mistaken for certain caulerpas due to its common name, but belonging to a completely different group. This decorative algae is distinguished by its wavy fronds in bright to rosy red, giving it a natural and very aesthetic movement in a well-lit reef aquarium.
A Slow and Manageable Growth
Unlike some invasive green algae, Halymenia durvillei grows slowly, making it easier to control. However, it can be naturally regulated by the presence of herbivorous fish such as tangs, or manually by light pulling when the fronds become too dense.
The packaged quantity corresponds to a branch of about 20 cm, ready to be placed in the tank or refuge.
Utility in Reef Tanks
- Decorative: soft texture and very aesthetic bright red color
