Chaetomorpha sp. – Ideal Filtering Algae for Reef Refuges
Chaetomorpha sp. is a green algae highly valued in marine aquariums for its effectiveness in eliminating nitrates and phosphates. Primarily used in refuges, this dense and filamentous algae acts as a true natural biological filter.
A Valuable Ally for Tank Balance
Thanks to its rapid growth, Chaetomorpha sp. captures excess nutrients from the water. Once its mass has developed, it can be manually removed from the refuge and moved to another tank, thus transporting the accumulated nutrients out of the initial system.
It is, therefore, an effective and low-maintenance tool, while actively contributing to the reduction of undesirable algae in the main aquarium.
Easy to Manage, No Risk of Overgrowth
Unlike caulerpa algae, Chaetomorpha does not root in the soil or rocks. It forms a floating or sedentary ball, easy to handle, with no risk of toxin release or uncontrolled proliferation. This makes it a very safe solution for all types of refuges.
Habitat for Beneficial Microfauna
The dense filaments of Chaetomorpha provide an ideal habitat for amphipods, copepods, and other small crustaceans. These enrich the tank's biodiversity and can even serve as live food for certain fish and filter-feeding corals.
