The Corydoras aeneus is also known as the Bronze Corydoras. It is considered a bottom-dwelling fish. It is essential to have them to establish a good balance in your aquarium. It has small barbels that allow it to dig in the sand to feed on food remnants that are not consumed by the other inhabitants of the aquarium.
It belongs to the Callichthyidae family and to the dwarf catfish. Indeed, its size is commonly around 6 cm. The male often has a less rounded abdomen than the female and has pointed dorsal fins, while the female's fins are more rounded. This species lives in schools and adopts a diurnal lifestyle.
In its natural environment, the Bronze Corydoras is exposed to neutral water, neither too basic nor very acidic. A pH of 6 to 7.5 is tolerable. The water should have a temperature between 25° and 28°. As explained earlier, this fish lives in colonies, which requires at least 8 individuals in an aquarium with a water capacity of 120 liters. Since this fish spends the day digging in the sand, care must be taken that the sand is not sharp, which could injure the fish's barbels. Unlike the Arched Corydoras, its diet consists of malacophagous, detritivore, and vermivore food.
