Micron Bag, Fine Filtration and Reef Protection
The micron bag, or filter sock, is a key element of mechanical filtration in reef aquariums. Made from finely calibrated synthetic fabric (usually 100 to 200 microns), it captures suspended particles before they degrade into undesirable nutrients.
Historically, the first filtration systems used sponges and perlon. The introduction of micron bags marked a significant advancement, offering more precise and better-controlled filtration, particularly suited to modern sumps and demanding reef systems.
Easy to install and replace, micron bags contribute to clearer water and a reduction in organic load. Regular maintenance is essential to prevent waste buildup and maintain optimal efficiency within the reef system.
