Genicanthus melanospilos: a Peaceful and Completely Reef Safe Angelfish
The Genicanthus melanospilos, commonly known as the blackspot angelfish, is a peaceful and graceful species that is perfect for a reef aquarium. It is distinguished by its slender silhouette and horizontal black stripes that run along its silvery body. In males, a characteristic black spot adorns the upper part of the dorsal fin, hence its scientific name.
This 100% reef safe angelfish is one of the few in its family that can coexist safely with corals and invertebrates. It generally swims in the upper areas of the aquarium and appreciates settings rich in hiding spots to feel secure.
Care Conditions for Genicanthus melanospilos

- Temperature: between 24°C and 27°C

This fish follows an omnivorous diet with a preference for plankton and small prey. In an aquarium, it easily accepts:
- marine fish pellets,
- thawed brine shrimp and mysis,
- fresh or dried seaweed (nori),
- and small pieces of mussels or shrimp.
For optimal development, offer several small meals daily. A rich and varied diet promotes intense colors and peaceful behavior.
