Apolemichthys xanthurus: The Yellowtail Angelfish for Passionate Aquarists

The Apolemichthys xanthurus, known as the yellowtail angelfish, is a fish native to the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea. It is distinguished by its golden brown body with a black reticulated pattern, contrasted by a bright yellow tail, hence its name. Its elegant appearance and active behavior make it a highly appreciated species in fish-only aquariums.

A Robust and Territorial Fish

The Apolemichthys xanthurus is a territorial fish, which can become aggressive towards its peers or other angelfish. It is therefore recommended to keep only one individual per aquarium or an already formed pair in a very large tank.

This fish is omnivorous and readily accepts a variety of foods: brine shrimp, mysis, pellet foods, freeze-dried sponges, or even Nori sheets. However, it is not recommended for reef aquariums as it may target coral polyps and clams.
