The coloration of Amphiprion clarkii can vary greatly depending on its place of origin. Some individuals have a dominant black color, while others have more orange hues, making each specimen unique. Despite this diversity, all display the characteristic vertical bands of clownfish.
This clownfish naturally lives in symbiosis with a host anemone. In an aquarium, it is ideally accompanied by a Stichodactyla type anemone. In the absence of an anemone, it can take up residence in a Rhodactis colony or a Euphyllia head, with which it sometimes forms an astonishing substitute relationship.
It very easily accepts inert food, making it an excellent fish for both beginner and experienced aquarists.
