Fungia moluccensis
A solitary disc-shaped LPS coral
The Fungia moluccensis is a recognizable LPS coral due to its flat or slightly domed shape, in the form of a disc. It is completely free and unfixed, allowing it to move slightly on the sand or flat areas of the decor according to the current.
Bright colors and a luminous presence
This coral comes in fluorescent green, intense orange, purple, pink, or multicolor, with a radiant texture. Highly appreciated for its reflections under blue lighting, the Fungia moluccensis naturally draws attention to the lower areas of the aquarium.
Ideal conditions for beautiful expansion
Lighting and water flow
Moderate to strong lighting (120–250 PAR) is recommended to enhance the fluorescence of its tissues. A gentle water flow is preferable to prevent the coral from moving too much or flipping over itself.
Water parameters
Like all LPS, the Fungia moluccensis requires stable and well-balanced water:
- Temperature: 24–26 °C
- Salinity: 35 ppt (1.025)
- pH: 8.0–8.4
- KH: 7–9 dKH
- Calcium: 400–450 ppm
- Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
- Nitrates: 2–10 mg/L
- Phosphates: 0.02–0.08 mg/L
A perfect coral for low areas
The Fungia moluccensis is an excellent choice for adorning the bottom of the aquarium with color and texture. Placed on sand or a flat slab, it can even slightly inflate and slowly move to adapt to the current.
