Centropyge heraldi: the Bright Yellow Dwarf Angelfish

The Centropyge heraldi, commonly known as the Herald's Dwarf Angelfish, is an elegant and dynamic species highly prized by reef aquarists. With its bright yellow oval body, it instantly brings a vibrant and luminous touch to any marine aquarium.

Often confused with the Centropyge flavissima, the Herald's Dwarf Angelfish is distinguished by the absence of blue markings around the eyes and on the caudal fin. This subtle morphological difference is essential for enthusiasts seeking a well-defined species.

Typical Behavior of Dwarf Angelfish

Like many species of the Centropyge genus, the Centropyge heraldi is known for its intraspecific aggressive behavior. It is therefore preferable to keep it alone or in a formed pair in suitably sized tanks. It coexists well with other peaceful species if the aquarium is well-structured.

This fish spends a good part of its day exploring rocks and searching for food. It may sometimes nibble on the polyps of some corals, particularly soft ones, but without causing real damage in a balanced tank.

Ideal Maintenance Conditions

  • Recommended minimum volume: 200 liters
  • Temperature: between 24°C and 28°C
  • Behavior: territorial with its conspecifics
  • Reef compatibility: good, with observation

A Varied Diet for a Healthy Fish

The Centropyge heraldi is omnivorous. It enjoys a varied diet composed of mysis, brine shrimp, krill, and requires regular supplementation with dried or fresh algae. This dietary diversity contributes to its health, stable behavior, and intense coloration.

It is essential to provide a decor rich in hiding places and live rocks, promoting its natural exploratory behavior and tranquility.

Small, lively, and resilient once acclimated, the Centropyge heraldi is a great opportunity for aquarists wishing to integrate a bright dwarf angelfish into their reef tank.
