Pseudanthias tuka: the fuchsia barber with vibrant hues
The Pseudanthias tuka, also known as the fuchsia barber, is a reef fish prized for its intense color and graceful swimming. This fish displays a striking violet to fuchsia gradient, often highlighted by a lighter midline that stretches along the body.
Highly appreciated by experienced aquarists, this fish never goes unnoticed in a reef aquarium. Its graceful behavior and delicate appearance make it a true star of the reefs.
Group maintenance for a natural life
The Pseudanthias tuka is a gregarious species. For its well-being, it must be kept in a group consisting of one male to three or four females. A minimum 500-liter aquarium is required to ensure enough space and stability for the group.
The aquarium decor should include many hiding places formed by live rocks, so that the females can retreat if the male becomes too dominant. Good water flow is also essential.
Frequent and rigorous feeding
The Pseudanthias tuka has a fast metabolism that requires several meals a day. Insufficient feeding leads to rapid weight loss and compromises its acclimatization:
- Live zooplankton (rotifers, copepods)
- Enriched brine shrimp and mysis
- Fish eggs and marine micro-prey
- Very small floating pellets and flakes
It is recommended to feed 3 to 5 times a day in small amounts, ensuring that all individuals have access to the food.
A delicate yet spectacular barber
Very sensitive to water quality, the Pseudanthias tuka is reserved for experienced aquarists capable of maintaining stable parameters. It is reef safe and does not harm corals or invertebrates.
When well maintained, the fuchsia barber becomes a true living jewel, swimming in schools above the decor. Its fuchsia brilliance and fluid swimming make it an exceptional fish for well-established reef tanks.
