The juvenile Pholidichthys leucotaenia is a fish with a snake-like appearance, recognizable by its horizontal white or golden stripe running along its entire black body. This striking pattern evolves with age to become a complex mesh in adults, making this fish even more intriguing for marine aquarium enthusiasts.
Native to the tropical areas from the southwest of the Philippines to the Solomon Islands, the juvenile Pholidichthys leucotaenia is a discreet inhabitant of sandy sea beds. In captivity, it is preferable to keep it in a small group when it is still young, to encourage its natural behavior.
Behavior and Compatibility in a Marine Aquarium
With a calm and peaceful temperament, this fish does not disturb the life of other species present in the aquarium. However, due to its strict carnivorous diet, it is incompatible with shrimp and small crustaceans, which could quickly be considered prey.
