The Microlipophrys nigriceps, also known as the black-headed blenny, is a small marine fish fascinating for its behavior and ability to adapt to various reef environments. This fish is particularly appreciated in small to medium-sized aquariums for its constant activity and atypical look.
This fish spends its days hopping from stone to stone, exploring every nook of the decor in search of food. Curious and lively, the Microlipophrys nigriceps quickly settles into a well-arranged aquarium and develops a small territory that it will defend peacefully.
The presence of numerous live rocks as well as a thin layer of sand or substrate is ideal for it to feel comfortable and express its natural behavior.
Like many blennies, the Microlipophrys nigriceps is omnivorous with a strong tendency to graze on algae that may appear in your tank. It will thus be a valuable ally in limiting their proliferation, provided they are not too tough. It supplements its diet with small natural prey and leftover food distributed to other residents.
Thanks to its hardiness and small size, this species is perfectly suited for beginner aquarists. It easily integrates into a community aquarium and coexists well with other peaceful species. However, it is not recommended to keep it with other blennies of the same kind in a too confined space, to avoid territorial behaviors.
Discreet but always moving, the Microlipophrys nigriceps is an endearing little fish that brings life and personality to your marine aquarium.
