Meiacanthus atrodorsalis, commonly known as the blackline fangblenny, is an elegant, active, and peaceful reef fish, recognized for its contrasting coloration and fascinating behavior. Native to the shallow reefs of Fiji and the Western Pacific, it is distinguished by its intense black back and bright yellow body, with an alert and curious look.
Like other Meiacanthus, this species has teeth capable of injecting a venom that is harmless to humans, but deters its predators. This rare mechanism in aquarium fish makes it a remarkable example of natural evolution. Despite this feature, the Meiacanthus atrodorsalis is peaceful with other species, but can be aggressive towards its own kind.
This specimen is captive-bred by Biota, a pioneering company in ethical marine aquaculture. Biota breeds fish without wild collection, in responsible marine nurseries. All individuals are acclimated to aquarium life, fed with inert foods, and selected for their robustness and stable behavior.
Very peaceful with other species, this fish is ideal for a community reef aquarium. However, it is preferable not to pair it with other blennies of the same genus unless in a large volume or a formed pair. It spends time in open water and among rocks and exhibits beautiful daytime activity.
The Meiacanthus atrodorsalis is undemanding and easy to feed. It readily accepts any type of small marine food.
Meiacanthus atrodorsalis is a modern, colorful, and intelligent reef fish. It combines beauty, originality, and robustness, and fits perfectly into an ethical aquarist approach thanks to sustainable breeding by Biota.
