Stenopus tenuirostris – Purple-bellied Boxer Shrimp
Stenopus tenuirostris, also known as the purple-bellied boxer shrimp, is a territorial yet useful reef invertebrate. This omnivorous crustacean is ideal for well-structured reef aquariums, with plenty of hiding spots and observation areas.
Behavior and Compatibility
This shrimp can live alone or in pairs, but avoid introducing two individuals of the same sex in a confined space. In case of conflict, one of the two could be eliminated. It can coexist with other invertebrates, provided it receives enough food to prevent any aggressive behavior.
Maintenance Conditions
Recommended minimum volume: 100 liters
Temperature: 24°C to 27°C
Decor: live rocks with numerous hiding spots for successful acclimation
Feeding
This omnivorous shrimp accepts a wide variety of foods:
- leftover fish food
- small pieces of shrimp, mussels, krill
- pellets or invertebrate foods
It is essential to provide it with regular and varied feeding to prevent it from attacking other aquarium inhabitants.
Special Considerations Upon Arrival
Stenopus tenuirostris may arrive missing a claw, which is a common consequence of stress related to fishing. This is not a problem at all: the claw will regrow after a few molts under optimal maintenance conditions.

Stenopus tenuirostris
Arrivée en pleine forme malgré cette saison froide. (FR->BE) Crevette très bien acclimatée. Elle a résisté 2 fois a une très forte variation de densité dû à un soucis avec l'osmolateur. Et malgré une chute brutale de la densité (1025 à 1018 en quelques minutes), la crevette ainsi que les autres détritivores, n'ont pas bougé d'un poil. Je recommande vivement, Gage de qualité garanti.
