Favites
An LPS Coral with a Honeycomb Pattern
The Favites is an encrusting LPS coral highly valued for its regular pattern of hexagonal polyps and contrasting colors, ranging from neon green to red, and including orange and purple. Each colony forms a living mosaic that immediately catches the eye.
A Robust and Easy-to-Maintain Coral
The Favites is known for its slow but steady growth and its resilience to moderate variations in water parameters. It is ideal for both beginner and experienced aquarists looking to add texture and color to their reef decor.
Ideal Conditions for Intense Coloration
Lighting and Water Flow
Moderate to strong lighting enhances the colors of the polyps, especially under actinic light. Moderate water flow is sufficient to oxygenate the tissues without disrupting their delicate structure.
Water Parameters
Like all LPS corals, the Favites requires stable and well-balanced water:
- Temperature: 24–26°C
- Salinity: 35 ppt (1.025)
- pH: 8.0–8.4
- KH: 7–9 dKH
- Calcium: 400–450 ppm
- Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
- Nitrates: 2–10 mg/L
- Phosphates: 0.02–0.08 mg/L
A Perfect Coral for Creating Contrast
