The Apistogramma macmasteri is a fish native to South America that belongs to the large family of dwarf cichlids. Measuring about 4 to 6 cm, it is easily recognizable by its gray and orange scales, and its scarlet fins. Often, it roams the shallow waters of rivers and streams in colonies or pairs. Its lifespan is estimated at 5 years.
For maintaining Apistogramma macmasteri in an aquarium, prefer water between 23° and 30°, in a tank of at least 90L. The recommended pH for this animal is between 6.8 and 7.2. While not very aggressive, it remains territorial and protects its kind. Therefore, make sure to be informed about species with compatible behavior. Conflicts related to group hierarchy can occur, making hiding places necessary.
