The Tanichthys albonubes is silver-colored over its entire body, but it is easily recognizable by its dorsal and caudal fins, which are dark red in color.
The Chinese Neon is a schooling fish, so it is necessary to introduce at least 8 individuals to avoid any stress that could either bring diseases or simply cause their death. Also called the Poor Man's Neon, it never exceeds 4 cm. Residing at mid-height or near the surface, it follows an insectivore diet. Discreet or even timid, the species takes refuge in dark areas when it encounters larger tankmates.
To keep the Tanichthys albonubes healthy, a minimum 50 L aquarium is required, with a water temperature ranging from 2° to 22°, and a pH around . Thus, the Chinese Neon is a fish capable of withstanding very cold waters. Its robustness greatly facilitates its breeding in captivity.
