Omnivorous fish with dull and dark scales, the Doctor Fish (Garra rufa) lives in the basins of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and in the Black Sea. Gregarious and peaceful, it is preferable to keep them in a group of at least 5. Evolving in the depths, it is essential to create a bottom section in the aquarium composed of stones, where it can hide daily. In adulthood, the Garra rufa generally does not exceed 10 cm in an aquarium, whereas it reaches about 15 cm in its natural habitat. Very tolerant of temperature, it can acclimate to aquariums with water between 15° and 35°C. The pH of its original environment is between 7 and 8. In captivity, the Doctor Fish can live up to 8 years.
