The Boeseman's Rainbowfish - Melanotaenia boesemani is a fish endemic to the large lakes of Indonesia. The Melanotaenia boesemani species has yellow-blue colors for the male and brown-green colors for the female. The body is thus half blue and half yellow, sometimes even bright orange under good conditions. It is a magnificent fish that can reach sizes of 10 to 12 cm. Being gregarious, a minimum volume of 200 L is required to accommodate at least 6 individuals. Moving in large schools near the surface, it hunts microorganisms, insects, and larvae for food.
For aquarium breeding, a pH between 6.5 and 8.5 is recommended, as well as water between 23° and 30°. Robust by nature, the Boeseman's Rainbowfish is easy to maintain in captivity. Moreover, it is perfectly suited for community tanks as they rarely concern themselves with other inhabitants.
