Aequidens rivulatus is a species of fish from the Cichlidae family, native to South America. It is primarily found in the freshwater bodies of the Andes region in South America.
The body of A. rivulatus is elongated and laterally compressed, with a relatively wide head and a pointed mouth. Its coloration is generally brown or gray, with darker spots and stripes on the back and sides. The caudal fin is often yellow or orange.
A. rivulatus is a social fish and primarily feeds on plants and small aquatic animals. It is often found in groups in shallow, well-oxygenated waters, near shores and islets.
Regarding size, A. rivulatus can reach a length of 20 to 25 cm. However, in captivity, it is generally smaller, with an average size of 15 to 20 cm.
To maintain A. rivulatus in captivity, it is important to provide an adequate habitat and maintain an optimal water quality level. An appropriately sized aquarium is important, with a suitable substrate and plants and decorations to create hiding spots.
