Cupramine Seachem 250 ml – Copper Treatment for External Parasites

Cupramine is a copper treatment complexed with an amine, formulated to effectively eliminate many fish ectoparasites while offering reduced toxicity compared to traditional copper forms.

Advantages over Traditional Coppers

Unlike copper sulfates, chlorides, or citrates, Cupramine is non-acidic, does not contaminate the filter substrate, and remains active at low concentration. Unlike chelated coppers, it is fully ionic, biologically active, and easily removable.

Concentrations and Safety

The minimum therapeutic concentration is 0.2 mg/L, with a target concentration of 0.5 mg/L in marine water and 0.25 mg/L in freshwater. Toxicity appears starting at 0.8 mg/L, providing a significant safety margin when used according to recommendations.

Instructions Before Treatment

It is imperative to remove all invertebrates, which are extremely sensitive to copper. Disable UV sterilizers, ozone, and remove any chemical filtration. Do not use in conjunction with other medications or products containing reducing agents.

Treatment Duration and Monitoring

Maintain the target concentration for a full 14 days, even if visible symptoms disappear earlier. Parasites spend part of their cycle in cyst forms insensitive to treatment.

The copper concentration should be monitored using a compatible test, such as MultiTest Copper.

Post-Treatment

Cupramine can be removed by activated carbon or CupriSorb. Leave the absorbing media in place for at least one week after returning to a zero concentration to ensure complete elimination.

Compatibility and Precautions

Cupramine is not compatible with reef aquariums. It should never be used with products containing formalin or reducing agents, nor with overdoses of water conditioners.
