Pterocaesio sp. – Yellow Line Fusilier Fish for Marine Aquarium
Pterocaesio sp., commonly known as the fusilier fish, is a streamlined, slender, and dynamic fish, featuring a shiny greenish-white hue enhanced by a horizontal yellow line running along its side. This streamlined body is designed for fast swimming in open water, in schools, creating an impressive visual effect in a large reef aquarium.
Originating from the tropical coral reefs of the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, the fusilier fish primarily swims in open water, forming dense schools above the reef, where it hunts plankton.
Maintenance Conditions
- Recommended minimum volume: 600 liters (1000 L for a school of 5 to 10 individuals)
- Temperature: 24°C to 27°C
- pH: 8.1 to 8.4
- Decor: clear swimming area, few imposing features
- Water flow: strong (recommended open water current)
Behavior and Compatibility
Pterocaesio sp. is a gregarious and peaceful species that must be kept in a group of at least 5 individuals to display natural behavior. It gets along perfectly with other peaceful and non-territorial fish.
Its continuous swimming behavior in open water adds a lot of dynamism to a large aquarium. It is not recommended to associate it with aggressive or overly territorial species that could hinder its freedom of movement.
Feeding
This planktivorous fish feeds in the water column. It will appreciate:
- Frozen plankton (cyclops, rotifers, mysis)
- Enriched brine shrimp
- Floating pellets suitable for open water fish
Frequent distribution of small amounts several times a day is recommended to respect its active metabolism.
