The Gobiodon quinquestrigatus, also known as the five-lined goby, is a small marine goby species known for its fluorescent blue stripes that elegantly contrast with its orange or reddish-brown body. This small reef fish is perfectly suited for aquariums populated with branching corals like Acropora.
The Gobiodon quinquestrigatus features a stout, warm-toned body, adorned with five thin blue lines running from the snout to the base of the tail. These patterns provide excellent camouflage among the coral branches while adding a unique visual touch to your aquarium.
This goby lives in symbiosis with Acropora corals, using their branches as natural shelter. It spends most of its time there, moving slowly, sometimes in pairs or small groups depending on available space. In some cases, it may consume very small polyps, but without harming the colony under appropriate maintenance conditions.
The Gobiodon quinquestrigatus is an excellent choice for reef aquarists with a well-cycled tank, rich in microfauna and Acropora. Its discretion, beauty, and unique relationship with corals make it a fascinating host to observe, especially when exhibiting reproductive or territorial behavior.
