Amblyeleotris steinitzi, known as the goby fish, is a peaceful and discreet fish, ideal for life in a reef aquarium. Recognizable by its light body crossed with orange rings and its blunt head, it captivates with its behavior as much as its appearance.
This goby forms a fascinating symbiotic relationship with a pistol shrimp of the genus Alpheus. While the shrimp digs and maintains a burrow in the substrate, the goby keeps watch and alerts in case of danger. Their cooperation adds an exceptional natural dynamic to your aquarium.
Some individuals of Amblyeleotris steinitzi exhibit partially herbivorous behavior, making them useful for limiting the proliferation of unwanted algae. Beyond that, it is a calm, non-territorial fish that gets along well with other peaceful species.
Minimum aquarium volume: 100 liters
Water temperature: between 24°C and 28°C
Substrate: sandy layer for the burrow
Compatibility: very good with calm and non-predatory species
Diet: carnivorous with herbivorous tendencies depending on the specimens
The Amblyeleotris steinitzi goby often stays close to its burrow, but its interactions with the pistol shrimp make its observation fascinating. This shrimp-goby duo embodies a beautiful example of marine symbiosis, perfectly suited to a well-structured reef aquarium.
Be sure to arrange a loose substrate in the installation area, so it can establish its refuge there. Pair it with a shrimp of the genus Alpheus available in the suggestions tab to fully appreciate its natural behavior.
