Gobiodon acicularis, known as the black coral goby, is a small reef fish with a completely black fusiform body, often seen perched among coral branches or discreetly gliding at the bottom of the tank. It is an elegant, discreet, and useful species.
This goby lives in passive symbiosis with branching hard corals (such as Acropora) or branching soft corals. It finds refuge and stability there, observing its environment from cavities or crevices. It does not harm well-established corals and helps create a natural and functional ambiance in the tank.
Some Gobiodon acicularis individuals may pick at algae or biofilms present on corals and live rocks, thus contributing to the natural management of microflora. This behavior is not systematic but can be beneficial in a well-balanced tank.
Although it may pick at surfaces, a varied and regular diet is essential, especially in a young tank or one with little colonized microfauna.
Gobiodon acicularis is a peaceful and aesthetic goby, perfect for enthusiasts of well-planted reef tanks with corals. Its dark silhouette adds a touch of contrast, and its natural behavior creates a visual and functional balance.
