Hydnophora exesa - Size S
An SPS Coral with Distinctive Reliefs
The Hydnophora exesa is an original SPS coral, recognizable by its jagged tips and raised surface. It forms branching or massive structures depending on its growth, with vibrant colors like fluorescent green, yellow-green, or turquoise, which are especially striking under actinic lighting.
A Structuring Coral That's Easy to Place
Thanks to its unique and angular shape, the Hydnophora exesa is ideal for adding texture and volume to the middle or back of the reef decor. It offers a strong visual impact even in size S, while being relatively easy to maintain for an SPS.
Ideal Conditions for Good Growth
Lighting and Water Flow
Moderate to strong lighting (150-300 PAR) is recommended to enhance its coloration and growth. Moderate to strong water flow is advised to prevent deposits between its reliefs and ensure good oxygenation of its tissues.
Water Parameters
Like all SPS corals, the Hydnophora exesa requires stable, clean, and well-balanced water:
- Temperature: 24–26°C
- Salinity: 35 ppt (1.025)
- pH: 8.0–8.4
- KH: 7–9 dKH
- Calcium: 420–460 ppm
- Magnesium: 1300–1400 ppm
- Nitrates: 1–5 mg/L
- Phosphates: 0.01–0.05 mg/L
Handle with Care
The Hydnophora is known for its high stinging power: it is important to give it enough space to avoid it burning neighboring corals. Properly placed, it becomes a strong feature of the decor, both sculptural and luminous.
