Tropic Marin high-precision hydrometer with measuring cylinder

The salt content of seawater, generally referred to as density, is one of the fundamental parameters of a marine aquarium. Many species are sensitive to variations, even minimal, of this parameter, which requires precise and regular monitoring.

At 25°C, the density of natural seawater at 35 ‰ is 1.026. For the water in a marine aquarium at 25°C, it is recommended to maintain a density between 1.025 and 1.027 depending on the type of aquarium.

Precise density measurement

The Tropic Marin high-precision hydrometer allows reliable and reproducible measurement of seawater density. It is designed for use at 25°C, the temperature at which reference values are defined.

Features of the measuring cylinder

Feature Data
Height 36 cm
Capacity 500 ml
Material Transparent plastic PP (polypropylene)
Design Stable base, pouring spout, molded graduations

Features of the high-precision hydrometer

Parameter Value
Maximum deviation 0.001 at 25°C
Resolution 0.0001
Measurement range 1.021 to 1.031
Recommended range 1.025 to 1.027 at 25°C
Material Mouth-blown glass

Measurement method

Density directly depends on temperature. To obtain a correct result, the water measured must be at 25°C.

Fill the measuring cylinder with a maximum of 400 ml of seawater at 25°C. Ensure the hydrometer is clean and dry, then gently place it in the water until it floats freely.

Read the density on the blue part of the graduated scale, at the water surface level, not at the meniscus on the edges.

Maintenance and recommendations

After each use, rinse the measuring cylinder thoroughly with tap water or osmosis water to remove salt residues and avoid any drift in subsequent measurements.

It is important not to confuse this hydrometer with the hydrometer used in some countries, whose scale and indications differ.

Measurement set intended for precise and reliable control of seawater density to maintain stable conditions in a marine aquarium.
