A Reef Salt from Natural Seawater

At least 85% of the components of Colombo Pro Reef Salt come directly from natural seawater, harvested and concentrated through environmentally friendly solar evaporation. This process preserves trace elements naturally present in the same proportions as in seawater, as well as beneficial bacterial traces for the tank's biology.

Recommended Use in Reef Aquarium

To maintain a healthy and stable marine aquarium, it is advisable to renew about 5 to 10% of the total water volume weekly. Start by compensating for evaporation with osmosis water, then replace the desired volume with freshly prepared seawater using Colombo Pro Reef Salt.

Preparation of Seawater

1. Dissolve 1 kg of Colombo Pro Reef Salt in about 30 liters of osmosis water at 25°C.
2. Circulate the water until complete dissolution and obtain perfectly clear water, usually in less than 60 minutes.
3. Check the salinity, generally between 1.022 and 1.023, and adjust if necessary.
4. Verify key parameters such as calcium, magnesium, and KH, and adjust according to the aquarium's specific needs.

As an indication, the obtained calcium is about 420 mg/l. Aquarists wishing for different values can adjust the parameters via suitable supplements or by slightly modifying the concentration.

Additional Information

After preparation, light mineral deposits may sometimes appear at the bottom of the container or aquarium. These are natural residues from the sand present in the evaporated seawater. These deposits are completely harmless and do not alter the water quality.

In case of high nitrates or phosphates in the newly prepared water, these usually come from a worn or insufficiently maintained reverse osmosis system, not from the salt. Filter replacement is then essential.
