A natural salt for reef aquariums

Due to its origin, Colombo Pro Reef Salt distinctly stands out from the majority of reef salts derived from chemical processes. It is a sea salt designed to closely replicate the composition of natural seawater, with minimal technical modifications.

At least 85% of its constituents come directly from natural seawater, harvested and then concentrated through environmentally friendly solar evaporation. The salt obtained thus retains trace elements in proportions very close to those of natural seawater.

The fresh salt comes from the Coral Sea and naturally contains numerous trace elements. Studies have also shown that bacterial traces remain after evaporation. These elements contribute to a significant improvement in the aquarium's biology and promote the development and vitality of corals for a large majority of users.

Use in reef aquarium

To maintain a healthy and stable reef aquarium, it is recommended to renew approximately 5 to 10% of the total water volume each week. Start by compensating for evaporation with osmosis water, then replace the desired volume with freshly prepared seawater using Colombo Pro Reef Salt.

Seawater preparation

1. Dissolve 1 kg of Colombo Pro Reef Salt in about 30 liters of osmosis water at a temperature of 25°C.
2. Circulate the water until complete dissolution and clear water is obtained, generally in less than 60 minutes.
3. Check the salinity, usually between 1.022 and 1.023, and adjust if necessary.
4. Verify important parameters like calcium, magnesium, and KH, and adjust them to the specific needs of the aquarium.

As an indication, the calcium level obtained is about 420 mg/l. It can be adjusted according to maintenance preferences, either by slightly altering the salt concentration or by adding suitable supplements.

Additional information

It is possible that slight mineral deposits appear at the bottom of the container or aquarium after water preparation. These come from natural residues from the sand present in the evaporated seawater. These deposits are harmless and do not alter water quality.

If high levels of nitrates or phosphates are detected in the prepared water, these do not come from the salt, but usually from a worn or poorly maintained reverse osmosis system. Replacing the filters is then essential.
