Clavularia Yellow Tip – Clove Polyps
A Bright and Waving Soft Coral
The Clavularia Yellow Tip, also known as yellow tip clove polyps, is an encrusting soft coral appreciated for its star-shaped polyps with a brown or olive green center and fluorescent yellow tips. This delicate contrast gives it a luminous appearance under actinic lighting and adds a fluid movement to the reef decor.
An Easygoing and Propagating Coral
This Clavularia grows slowly, forming a soft carpet over rocks or supports. It is very easy to maintain and can be fragged in a few seconds to be placed elsewhere in the aquarium or shared among enthusiasts. It is ideal for reef keepers of all levels.
Feeding and Behavior
Thanks to its zooxanthellae, the Clavularia Yellow Tip is photosynthetic and does not require specific feeding. However, it can benefit from a slightly nutrient-rich environment and suspended microfauna, which promotes the beautiful expansion of the polyps.
Lighting and Water Flow
Moderate to strong lighting is ideal to highlight the fluorescent yellow hue of the tips. Gentle to medium water flow is recommended to allow the polyps to wave without disturbing their opening.
Water Parameters
The Clavularia Yellow Tip requires stable and well-balanced water:
- Temperature: 24–26°C
- Salinity: 35 ppt (1.025)
- pH: 8.0–8.4
- KH: 7–9 dKH
- Calcium: 400–450 ppm
- Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
A Touch of Soft and Dynamic Color
Non-aggressive, the Clavularia Yellow Tip pairs very well with other soft corals, LPS, or zoanthids. It is perfect for decorating a low or lateral area, or even for creating a living tapestry on a column or flat rock.
