The Reference Leather Coral for a Good Start
The Sarcophyton ehrenbergi is one of the most popular soft corals in reef aquariums, especially for beginners. Also known as the mushroom leather coral, it is distinguished by its smooth and domed cap from which long and flexible polyps extend, creating a gentle and natural movement in the current.
Easygoing, Robust, and Fast
This coral is extremely resilient and does not require strict conditions. It tolerates moderate variations in water quality, does well with medium lighting, and grows quickly once well-established. Its adaptability makes it an excellent choice for beginners.
A Soothing Movement in the Tank
The polyps of Sarcophyton ehrenbergi are constantly open and gently sway with the current, providing a relaxing visual effect and dynamism to the reef. This lively behavior makes it highly appreciated for animating calm or side areas of the decor.
Lighting and Water Flow
This coral does not require intense lighting; LEDs or T5s are more than sufficient. A moderate flow is ideal to properly oxygenate the tissues without hindering polyp extension.
