Alcyonium sp.
True soft coral, it is robust and has rapid growth. It is easy to propagate and ideal for beginners. It is not demanding in terms of water quality, does not require powerful lighting like HQI, and needs moderate to strong water flow. It does not require specific food additions, except for trace element additives for all tanks.

Alcyonium sp.
A robust and decorative soft coral
The Alcyonium sp. is a soft coral with varied shapes, which can be encrusting, lobed, or branched, depending on the conditions and strain. It is often whitish, beige, pale pink, or cream in color, and its star-shaped polyps unfurl continuously to create a soft and natural movement effect.
A flexible and easy-going coral
Easy to acclimate, the Alcyonium is very resilient and ideal for beginners. It attaches firmly to live rocks and can develop into small upright or cushion-shaped colonies. It tolerates moderate parameter variations well and integrates perfectly into a mixed reef.
Lighting and water flow
This coral appreciates moderate lighting and moderate to strong water flow, which stimulates the extension of polyps and promotes nutrient exchange. An area that is well-ventilated without overly strong direct currents is ideal.
Water parameters
To thrive, the Alcyonium sp. requires stable and well-balanced water:
- Temperature: 24–26°C
- Salinity: 35 ppt (1.025)
- pH: 8.0–8.4
- KH: 7–9 dKH
- Calcium: 400–450 ppm
- Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
An excellent choice for creating volume
Thanks to its branched or cushion-like appearance, the Alcyonium is ideal for structuring a rocky area, complementing a background decor, or dressing the sides of the reef. It grows harmoniously next to soft corals, LPS, or non-aggressive symbiotic corals.
