Sarcophyton latum - Leather coral highly prized by reefkeepers, as it is very easy to maintain and frag.
It requires intense lighting and vigorous water flow to help shed its superficial epidermis during molting. It is not necessary to add any special food apart from trace element additives.

Sarcophyton latum
A prized leather coral for its robustness and simplicity
The Sarcophyton latum is a soft leather-type coral highly valued for its large and thick shape, and its ability to easily adapt to aquarium life. Sought after by reef enthusiasts at all levels, it is particularly easy to maintain and propagate.
Easy maintenance for a structural coral
Thanks to its natural resilience and stable growth, the Sarcophyton latum can be placed in well-lit areas of the tank to provide volume and depth. It is perfect for structuring a reef decor with an imposing and lively leather coral.
Recommended strong lighting and circulation
This coral needs intense lighting to fully express its vitality, whether under powerful LEDs or HQI. A vigorous circulation is also essential to facilitate the removal of the thin film from its epidermis during natural molting, which ensures good tissue renewal.
No feeding necessary
The Sarcophyton latum is photosynthetic and does not require any direct food supply. A regular supplement of trace elements is sufficient to maintain its health and growth over time.
Water parameters
Like all leather corals, it appreciates stable and well-oxygenated water:
- Temperature: 24–26 °C
- Salinity: 35 ppt (1.025)
- pH: 8.0–8.4
- KH: 7–9 dKH
- Calcium: 400–450 ppm
- Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
