The Capnella sp., commonly known as tree coral, is a highly valued soft coral for its vertical growth in the shape of a branched tree-like structure. Its light and mobile structure mimics that of a small underwater bush, adding volume and height to the reef decor.
This coral is extremely hardy and ideal for beginner aquarists. It adapts to a wide variety of conditions and requires neither strong lighting nor strictly reef-like parameters. It grows quickly and can reach several dozen centimeters in an aquarium. Propagation is also very simple: a cut branch can be attached to a rock to create a new colony.
Its tree-like shape, hence its common name, is highly prized for structuring a reef decor. It is often used in the background or center of the tank to create verticality with a gentle touch.
The Capnella grows very well under moderate lighting. A medium to strong water flow is recommended to promote polyp extension and nutrient exchange without damaging its flexible structure.
This coral tolerates a wide range of conditions but will appreciate stable water:
The Capnella sp. is a decorative, easy-going, and fast-growing soft coral. It is perfect for creating a natural and lively structure in your aquarium, without the constraints of more demanding species.
