The Manonichthys splendens features an elongated, extremely bright body showcasing a magnificent palette of colors ranging from bright yellow to deep blue with shades of intense black. This hermaphroditic fish sees the male grow larger than the female, reaching an adult size of about 10 to 12 cm.
