Avec un corps de forme ovale et comprimé sur les côtés, l'Acanthurus leucosternon est un poisson à tête noire. Il possède également un corps bleu et une poitrine blanche. Enfin, sa dorsale, son pédoncule caudale et ses pectorales sont jaunes. Seul ou en groupe, ce spécimen occupe les récifs coralliens en eaux peu profondes. Ils suivent un régime omnivore à tendance herbivore.
Pour une maintenance de qualité, un aquarium très volumineux, supérieur à 1500L est recommandé dans le cadre d'un bac communautaire. En effet, l'Acanthurus leucosternon est un très grand nageur, qui ne tolère que des relations interspécifiques, lorsque les autres poissons ont déjà établi domicile. Son comportement hostile vis-à-vis des nouveaux venus et de ses congénères rend sa maintenance possible par des aquariophiles confirmés.
