The Naso brevirostris, also known as the short-nosed unicorn surgeonfish, is a large marine fish belonging to the Acanthuridae family. It is highly appreciated by aquarists for its peaceful behavior, natural elegance, and active contribution to grazing algae in large reef aquariums.
It is characterized by a fusiform gray-blue body, tapered fins, and a slightly pronounced frontal hump that gives the species its name "brevirostris". Its slender and elongated silhouette allows it to move gracefully in areas with moderate to strong currents. This fish can reach up to 45 cm in adulthood, thus requiring a very large tank.
A peaceful and sociable behavior

Maintaining the Naso brevirostris requires a marine aquarium of over 1000 liters, ideally over 1500 liters for an adult. It needs a large swimming area, good water flow, and optimal oxygenation to remain active and healthy.
The setup should include live rocks with microalgae, shaded areas, and a sandy zone. This surgeonfish is not a burrower but enjoys open and well-aerated tanks.
A strict herbivorous diet
