Choerodon fasciatus – Captive-Bred Harlequin Tuskfish Acclimated in Mesocosm

Choerodon fasciatus, better known as the harlequin tuskfish, is a stunning marine fish native to the southern tropical Pacific. This wrasse fish, rarely offered in France, boasts a spectacular multicolored appearance with mottled patterns, making it a true jewel for reef aquariums.

A Rare Beauty with Vibrant Colors

With its red, orange, yellow, and purple bands, the harlequin tuskfish immediately catches the eye. This species is rarely imported, and its presence in an aquarium is always remarkable. Each individual displays a slightly different pattern, making each specimen unique.

Compatibility and Behavior

Choerodon fasciatus is compatible with reef aquariums containing corals. However, it is important to note that it may prey on certain invertebrates such as shrimp, sea urchins, or brittle stars. Careful observation is therefore advised when introducing it into a community tank.

A Fish Raised in Mesocosm by Bali Aquarich

This fish comes from the facilities of Bali Aquarich, located in Bali, Indonesia. This world-renowned breeding site benefits from a warm and stable climate year-round, by the sea and free from industrial pollution. The Bali Aquarich team has been breeding marine fish for over 20 years, in closed systems both indoors and outdoors, ensuring healthy, colorful, and robust fish.

The harlequin tuskfish is ethically bred: disease-free, with colors as vibrant as wild specimens.

Rigorous Acclimation Before Shipping

Although these fish are captive-bred, they are not immediately accustomed to inert food. This is why we perform a 15-day acclimation before shipping. During this period:

  • The fish are fed live marine copepods for 7 days.
  • Then they are gradually accustomed to frozen brine shrimp and marine pellets.
  • They are kept in optimal reef-quality water.

This protocol ensures successful acclimation and a smooth dietary transition, ensuring a high success rate when introduced to an aquarium.

Feeding in Captivity

Once acclimated, Choerodon fasciatus accepts a varied diet: specific pellets for marine fish, brine shrimp, frozen plankton, pieces of shrimp, or squid. This variety helps maintain its vitality, colors, and natural foraging behavior.

Why Choose a Captive-Bred Harlequin Tuskfish?

Choosing a captive-bred Choerodon fasciatus means opting for a rare, magnificent, and environmentally friendly fish. Each specimen is prepared with care to ensure a successful adaptation in reef aquariums.

Integrating this fish into your aquarium adds a touch of vibrant exoticism while participating in responsible and sustainable aquarium keeping.
