The Centropyge flavissima, commonly known as the lemon dwarf angelfish, is a true icon of reef aquariums. With its intense yellow hue with an orange tint, this small dwarf angelfish adds a vibrant touch to any aquarium.
In adulthood, the Centropyge flavissima is adorned with electric blue details: a thin line along the operculum, around the eye, and the edge of the tail. Some geographical variants, particularly from the Pacific or Indonesia, may show a black spot on the rear of the body at the sub-adult stage, which fades in adulthood.
This dwarf angelfish is active and curious. It can be territorial, especially towards other angelfish of the same genus. Therefore, it is recommended to keep only one Centropyge flavissima per tank, except in very large aquariums with a well-structured layout.
It requires an aquarium rich in hiding places, composed of live rock and shady areas, allowing it to feel secure while exploring its environment.
Omnivorous with a tendency towards microphagy, the Centropyge flavissima enjoys a mix of plant and animal food. Offer it a diet based on dried seaweed, spirulina, brine shrimp, mysis, and specific marine fish pellets. A well-fed fish will be more colorful, less stressed, and less tempted to peck at corals.
Thanks to its liveliness, bright colors, and small size, the Centropyge flavissima is a popular choice for aquarists looking to introduce an elegant dwarf angelfish into their reef aquarium.
