Care Bacter by Tunze is a blend of selected bacterial strains sprayed onto a maerl substrate. It helps maintain a clean, balanced, and healthy marine or freshwater aquarium. This natural product effectively acts against nitrates, phosphates, and unwanted algae while supporting the health of fish and corals.

Main Actions

1. Algae Reduction – Care Bacter bacteria directly compete with green and filamentous algae, limiting their proliferation. The glass stays clean longer and water clarity is improved.
2. Reduction of Nitrates and Phosphates – The bacteria use nitrogenous and phosphorous compounds as an energy source. At the end of the cycle, they are removed by skimming or consumed by corals, thus contributing to purer water.
3. Increased Vitality of Corals and Fish – The microorganisms and their metabolites stimulate the immune system of aquarium inhabitants, limit the risk of diseases, and prevent vibriosis.
4. Biological Cleaning of the Tank – Organic deposits and sludge (mulm) are naturally degraded, maintaining a clean substrate and water without resorting to chemicals.

Composition and Mechanism of Action

Care Bacter contains a synergistic consortium of beneficial bacteria:

• The first group breaks down dead organic matter (proteins, ammonium, nitrites, nitrates) and directly consumes nitrates and phosphates, thus reducing nutrients available for algae.
• The second group combats pathogenic bacteria of the Vibrio genus, common in marine aquariums, thereby protecting fish, corals, and crustaceans from infections.

The treatment also promotes the formation of a beneficial biofilm that nourishes certain benthic invertebrates and corals, while stabilizing the biological processes within the tank.

Dosage and Use

For first-time use, an initial seeding treatment is recommended for rapid effectiveness. Measuring spoon included.

Initial Seeding (for 2 weeks)

• 500 to 1000 L: 10 ml/week (≈ 4 spoons)
• 100 to 500 L: 5 ml/week (≈ 2 spoons)
• 30 to 100 L: 2.5 ml/week (≈ 1 spoon)

Weekly Maintenance

• 500 to 1000 L: 2.5 ml/week (≈ 1 spoon)
• 30 to 500 L: 1.25 ml/week (≈ ½ spoon)

During each dosing, it is advised to turn off the mechanical filtration or skimmer for about 10 minutes to allow proper dispersion of the bacteria in the biotope.
