Clibanarius rutilus is a very small hermit crab, measuring between 0.5 and 2 cm. Discreet, active, and particularly suited for nano-aquariums or small reef tanks, it is one of the best allies for natural maintenance of the substrate and live rocks.
This pagurid feeds on algae, biofilm, detritus, and food leftovers. Thanks to its small size, it can access areas inaccessible to larger invertebrates, and effectively cleans the crevices between rocks, shallow sandy areas, and the corners of the aquarium.
Its size and calm behavior make it an ideal choice for tanks starting at 20 liters. It is also perfectly compatible with shrimp, snails, soft corals, LPS, and SPS. It can be kept alone or in a small group, depending on the tank size.
Like all hermit crabs, Clibanarius rutilus changes shells as it grows. It is therefore necessary to place several small empty shells in the aquarium to avoid conflicts and promote its natural growth.
Clibanarius rutilus is the perfect choice to maintain a clean environment in small reef tanks. It is both useful, decorative, and respectful of other aquarium inhabitants.
