Stenopus scutellatus is a cleaner shrimp that plays an essential role in the maintenance of a reef aquarium. As an omnivore, it helps eliminate parasites present on fish and effectively complements your population of useful invertebrates.
Visually very similar to Stenopus hispidus, Stenopus scutellatus features red and white bands on its body as well as long, thin, and powerful pincers. It prefers to live in pairs, where the male is generally smaller and darker than the female. Its presence in the dark corners of the aquarium is both discreet and reassuring for the tank's balance.

This species can coexist with peaceful fish and invertebrates, but avoid introducing other dominant shrimp in a small aquarium. In large tanks, it is possible to keep a pair or several individuals with enough distinct territories.

It is common for Stenopus scutellatus to be missing a pincer upon arrival due to stress related to fishing. This is absolutely not serious, as the pincer naturally regrows within a few molts. Our specimens are young, so it is impossible to differentiate the sexes before acclimatization.
