Hippocampus comes, also known as the tiger tail seahorse, is a majestic seahorse with a slender body and a ringed tail with distinctive dark stripes. This species is renowned for its grace and the vertical posture so typical of seahorses.
Originating from the coastal areas of the Indian Ocean and the Western Pacific, this seahorse is a true curiosity for marine fish enthusiasts. However, its care requires very specific conditions and a tank exclusively dedicated to this species.
Care Conditions

- Temperature: 23°C to 26°C

- Decor: imperative presence of gorgonians, long algae (such as Caulerpa), or non-stinging branching corals to help it hold on

Behavior and Compatibility
Hippocampus comes is a peaceful and slow fish, never to be kept with overly lively or aggressive species. It prefers to live alone or in pairs. The presence of a calm environment, rich in attachment zones, is essential for its well-being.
Its behavior consists of attaching itself with its prehensile tail to elements of the decor, such as gorgonians or long algae. It spends a lot of time motionless, observing its environment or capturing passing micro-prey.
Feeding
One of the most delicate aspects of its care is feeding. Hippocampus comes is a plankton-eating micro-predator. It must be fed several times a day with small-sized prey:
- Enriched frozen mysis
- Live or thawed brine shrimp
- Small live copepods if possible
